2004 was a hell of a year for Proud Mary.
They toured the length and breadth of the country twice (over 30 shows),
played the Isle of Wight and Guildford festivals, various May Balls
at colleges around the UK, managed to squeeze in a live session with
Janice Long, released their long-awaited second album "Love
& Light" on Redemption Records and in November they returned
for five more shows in major cities.
Proud
Mary came to life in 2001 when their debut album "The Same Old
Blues" was released on Noel Gallagher's Sour Mash Records. Produced
by Noel, the album went on to win plaudits for its country/rock-influenced
songwriting and led to lengthy periods of touring , including major
support slots with the likes of Oasis, Stereophonics, Paul Weller &
Neil Young.
Now
built around the nucleus of Greg Griffin (vocals) and Paul
Newsome (guitars & vocals), Proud Mary emerged from the studio with
an album that mixes the sounds of dirt-road Americana with classic British
pop influences. The album features ex-Smiths bassist and occasional
Proud Mary touring band member Andy Rourke on two tracks.
"Love
& Light" is in the shops now.
